Join SAF and Integrus Architecture for an engaging and interactive Map the Square exercise, as we discuss opportunities to evolve Pioneer Square through thoughtful zoning and adaptive reuse of its unreinforced masonry buildings. Hosted by the "A" Gallery in the historic Union Trust Annex, our Design Soirée will include a brief presentation from regional expert Kathryn Rogers Merlino about adaptive reuse of our historic urban core, an interactive Map the Square team exercise in and around Occidental Park, and feedback/presentations from mapping teams about observations and outcomes of our exercise. Light food and beverages will be provided. This is a "First Thursday" event, and we invite participants to extend your evening enjoying Pioneer Square's vibrant arts community immediately following the Soirée.

Kathryn Rogers Merlino is an Associate Professor at the UW School of Architecture and Director of the Center for Preservation and Adaptive Reuse. Her work combines historic preservation with environmental responsibility to question how our existing structures can be retrofitted for sustainable futures.

Design Soirée is a series of exclusive design-oriented events intended to cultivate a greater understanding and appreciation of how design enriches our lives. All Design Soirée activities are intended to raise funds for other SAF programming and are curated and presented by generous hosts—architects, engineers, contractors, and artists who volunteer their time and expertise.
